There are several ways to reach Tofino which include by road, boat, plane and ferry. The MV Lady Rose and the M.V. Frances Barkley are passenger and cargo ferries based in Port Alberni that service communities up and down Barkley Sound and stop in Ucluelet. The ferry service is based in Port Alberni, which is a short drive from the more populated communities on the east side of Vancouver Island. The trip up the sound is absolutely spectacular and is a truly memorable experience. The trip takes an entire day, with stops all along the way at float homes and whaling stations to deliver goods and supplies to the small communities dotting the Sound. When you arrive in Ucluelet, you will have had a good exposure to west coast life and seen many of the spectacular vistas that await you exploring further from the communities of Tofino and Ucluelet.
