 Sooke BC is an oceanfront community on the west side of Vancouver Island just 15 minutes from Langford and 30 minuted from Downtown Victoria. Sooke is comprised of several different residential areas which are all built along the oceanfront corridor leading north along the west side of Vancouver Island to Port Renfrew. This rural setting is some of the most spectacular country in Canada and the views from just about everywhere are astounding.
The village of Sooke is a small quaint town that is just large enough to contain all the amenities you might need but is not too large to lose that small town feel. Sooke features some well kept secrets as well. Whiffin Spit Park is a breakwater walking trail jutting into the Sooke Harbour and is a great place to take a stroll literally into the ocean. Watch birds, otters and seals catch fish in the opening of the harbour as the tide goes out. Enjoy the sounds of waterfowl and observe eagles flying overhead. This park is definitely a hidden jewel and is an excellent place to rest or stroll by the side of the ocean. After your stroll, drop in at the Sooke Harbour House for a world class meal at an internationally acclaimed restaurant.
At the end of the Sooke River Road is Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. This crystal clear river provides a spectacular swimming hole in summer and in fall, you can watch the salmon spawn from meters away. On the way, stop in at the Sooke Regional Museum and have a look at all the historical artifacts collected from a community involved with the forest and the ocean for more than 100 years.
East Sooke BC, known locally as Nature's Gallery, is the beautiful area across the Sooke Harbour from the town of Sooke. With the majority of the land mass a huge 3200 acre wilderness park, East Sooke is absolutely a spectacular place to visit, to enjoy the outdoors, to go fishing or to just enjoy nature's beauty from a hot tub by the edge of the ocean.
Both Sooke and East Sooke are simply not well known. While many tourists come to visit Tofino because of it's notoriety, the Sooke area has just as much to offer, if not more, because of it's proximity to Victoria.
